MULTIMEDIA PIONEERING 2

ASSIGNMENT :: SMALL INTERACTIVITY

Instructions
The eight hour Multimedia Pioneering prototype! The goal is to make an engaging Flash prototype feature for Mobile PDA or Phone. You can work alone or in partners.

Context
The mobile applications industry has been on the brink of taking off for a while now. It is probable that demonstrating skills in developing for mobile will make you more marketable in the near future.

Requirements
The prototype must relate to proximity. Either proximity to its surroundings or to other mobile devices. You will model the presence of a signal - just set an interval that acts like a signal. For instance, this would allow you to pull up a pizza order form as you walk past a pizza shop or open a dialogue box if you are near a person you have indicated is a friend of yours. Try and come up with unique uses.

This is not an assignment to make little games that could be played anywhere. Your feature must relate to your surroundings. It can be text based or graphics based. You must research to see what version of Flash you can use and the various limitations, etc.

Prototypes must be built in class although ideas can come at any time. The professor will make routine rounds to help with any issues and evaluate your entrepreneurial attitude.

The prototype is due at the start of class on Apr 17. On that date we will also have presentations. Presentations must start with a one minute elevator pitch - see links below. Then the class will gather around as a few students use the mobile feature. Total presentation time will not exceed ten minutes.

The assignment will be worth 40% of 2 credits and is due Apr 17 [TUE] at the start of class. It should be posted on your Web site at: /mp2/assignments/prototype.html

SPECIFICATIONS
The dimensions of your Flash file should be either 320x480 or 480x320. Here are reference pictures - your feature will be where the gray part is.
